The plan for the first 90 miles

Starting from our home near Clinton we are going to drive west on I-20 to Vicksburg. From there we will take Hwy 61 south all the way to Natchez Ms where the Trace begins. Once we arrive in Natchez we plan on visiting the Natchez National Historical park and the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians State Historic Site.  Also any other site that might be around ending the day at the Natchez State park where we will make our first camp site. First thing the next morning we will start our trip north on the trace at the 10 mile marker ending the day at the at Rocky Springs camp ground which is located at the 54.8 mile mark  hopefully by the time we make it to Rocky Springs there will still be a place for us to make camp for the night. If not we will just push on for to the last 36 miles on our trip north on the Natchez Trace

According to the weather man as of today there is going to be a 60% chance of rain on Saturday March 5th.  I will be watching the news and looking on the web the next few days to see if the weather will hold up. If the weather stays the same then our adventure will begin next weekend keep your fingers crossed. We have a lot to get together for our adventure its been along time since I have camped my camping supplies are probably way out of order.

Later in the blog when we are actually traveling I will go in to more detail also add some pics of the trip and sites but for now this is just the plan for the first part or our trip

The concept

Recently me and my wife Brenda bought new phones and like everyone we had to play with all the apps the phone came with. I have to say that the turn by turn navigation has got to be my favorite. In this app there is an option to turn on the historical facts. My wife has told me for years now that she has always wanted to travel the Trace and stop at all the historical sites along the way. I have always thought this would be a great thing to do but never put any thought in to making the trip.  About a year ago I bought a tent for us to go on a fishing trip that the plans not by any fault of our own never happened. My daughter Kate has been begging to go camping in the tent from the first day I put the tent up.  So now I am thinking why not kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Take my family on a trip down the trace  camping along the way. While the days are warm and the night are still chilly I think the adventure should begin.
